WATER SAFETY & RESCUE

WATER RESCUE TECHNICIAN 1


This course designed for professional guides, private boaters, fish and game personnel, and others who work or play on or around flowing water. Students learn to use techniques and simple equipment to assess and perform river rescues. Focus is on real problems boaters might face with emphasis on speedy, low-tech, and improvised rescue techniques that require minimal equipment. Skills covered include:
  • accomplishing a shore-based water rescue using generally accepted reach and throw techniques
  • in-water self-rescue and safety techniques
  • dealing with water-related medical emergencies
  • basic boat-based rescue concerns and techniques





WATER RESCUE TECHNICIAN 2



Intensive 3-day course that includes one day of classroom instruction followed by 2 days of developing and practicing water rescue skills.

  • safely swimming in moving water and recognizing and maneuvering around river hazards.
  • fording shallow and fast-moving water
  • crossing deep, slow and fast-moving water using basic climbing gear, small boats, and combinations
  • handling small inflatable boats by paddle, oar and on tether
  • rescuing and extricating an accident victim for the water
  • understanding moving water rescue team organization and the response of the victim







REMOTE WORKER ICE SAFETY AND RESCUE / ICE RESCUE TECHNICIAN




3-day course teaches students rescuer safety skill, self-rescue techniques, pre-planning for and size-up of ice rescue incidents, and rope skills. Meets requirements for ice rescue under the water section of NFPA 1670. Provides students with an understanding of ice properties, formations, types, and hazards.

MOTORIZED BOAT HANDLING



3-day course for professionals or recreational enthusiasts. Training can be customized to include motorized and non-motorized boats, propeller or jet engines, and moving or flat water, depending on your needs. Improve your river reading and boat maneuvering skill. One day of classroom provides:
  • rescue philosophy for moving water
  • moving water hydrology and boat operations in dynamic moving water environments
  • equipment discussion - boats and motors appropriate for the environment
2 days on the river provide the opportunity to practice reading the water and operating boats. Hazard recognition and proper use of safety/rescue equipment are stressed. Common boat handling skills including eddying out, peeling out, and ferrying are introduced and practiced. These skills are then applied to moving up current, down current, and performing rescue operations.






ROPE SAFETY AND RESCUE COURSES


NFPA LEVEL 1 ROPE RESCUE TECHNICIAN

3-day course provides knowledge and practice of fundamentals of rope rescue. Students learn and practice all areas of rope rescue in a low-angle environment and are trained in:
  • preplanning and size-up of rope rescue operations
  • knots, hitches, and anchor systems
  • belay operations
  • ascending and descending lines - mechanical advantage systems
  • raising and lowering systems
  • patient packaging & litter attending
Students learn how to safely navigate low-angle or over-the-bank rescue situations and assist rescuers in high-angle environments.

NFPA LEVEL 2 ROPE RESCUE TECHNICIAN

5-day course designed to take students from basic over-the-bank rescues to progressively more vertical scenarios. One classroom day
  • and 4 field days learning and practicing the following techniques:
  • preplanning and size-up of rope rescue operations
  • scene management and organization
  • knots, hitches, anchor systems
  • belaying, lowering and raising systems
  • ascending and descending lines
  • mechanical advantage systems
  • patient packing & litter attending
  • special problems and helicopter use
  • tethers and high-lines

OSHA ROPE RESCUE TECHNICIAN

The OSHA and NFPA compliant 4-day Industrial Rope Rescue Technician Course prepares companies and workers at height in the occupations covered by OSHA that require fall protection and fall arrest. Provides hands on training for self and assisted rescue systems (per ANSI/ASSE Z359.4 guidelines).

In addition to comprehensive hands on experience, training and education on the safety requirements for general industry fall protection requirement, guidelines for ANSI standards that are a nationally recognized fall protection code the OSHA references as a requirement of compliance under OSHA’s “general duty clause” to help prevent falls.

Certification includes definitions and nomenclature in fall protection, safety requirements for personal fall arrest systems, minimum requirements for a comprehensive Managed Fall Protection program, positioning and travel restraint systems, and safety requirements for self and assisted rescue systems.


OSHA ROPE RESCUE AND CONFINED SPACE RESCUE

The OSHA and NFPA compliant 7 day OSHA Rope Rescue Technician Course prepares companies and workers at height and/or in confined space in the occupations covered by OSHA that require fall protection and fall arrest. Provides hands on training for self and assisted rescue systems.
